License and Terms of Use

A Microsoft product key is, according to the license terms, generally intended for one-time activation.

• Usage is unlimited in time as long as the software remains installed on the same device.
• In the event of a reinstallation, formatting, or significant hardware change, reactivation cannot be guaranteed.
• Multiple use on different devices is strictly prohibited (see Microsoft Product Terms and Microsoft Software License Terms).

Origin and Legality

All offered product keys originate from legally acquired sources and may be resold in accordance with applicable law.

• OEM Versions: If the item is marked as "OEM," the original purchaser has completely removed the software from all devices, storage media, and memory (including cloud storage).
• Non-OEM Versions: Here too, the first purchaser has only received the key and has permanently deleted or disabled the original software copy.

The requirements of Article 5(1) of Directive 2009/24/EC (“exhaustion of the distribution right”) are fulfilled (Full text at EUR-Lex). Updates and improvements can be obtained directly from the manufacturer’s website: Microsoft Software Download.

OEM Software at a Glance

OEM versions (“Original Equipment Manufacturer”) are legally permitted in Germany and, since 2012, throughout the entire EU – regardless of hardware bundling.

The only difference compared to the retail version lies in the packaging and the lack of direct Microsoft support.
